ABSTRACT
Various finite difference formulae for the Laplacian are given in the form of stencils of a variety of types and orders. Straightforward methods for generating stencils are described. The methods are used to obtain several special-purpose stencils. The leading terms of the truncation error for several stencils of interest are computed.
